This weekend, the Garda Boat Club continued it’s success from Neptune HOR in November by securing two 1st place finishes at Muckross HOR.
Towed by their Isuzu sponsored DMax, the Garda Boat Club travelled to the National Rowing Centre on Saturday 6th December. With inclement weather forecast for later in the day it was an early start for all crews with timers in place from 9am on the course. With boats rigged and ready to go before the sun broke through the morning mist the Garda Crews were some of the first on the water.
Club Captain Damien Kelly was the first Garda Sculler on the water and covered the course at 28SPM in 12min 5sec which secured him victory in the Men’s Intermediate Single Scull.
During the day the women’s coxed quad also took to the water with their new cox Siobhan Frisby on her maiden race. Along with two men’s doubles and an array of scullers all fared well in their categories and were not far off the winning pace.
In the last 30 minutes of timing, as the weather began to close in, the Women’s Intermediate Double stroked by Shelia Kenny and backed by by Jackie Ryan crossed the course at 29SPM in a time of 13min 10 sec which gave them their first win together this season.
Boats derigged and on the road back to Dublin by 3pm, it was a good weekend for the club. Congratulations should be given to Muckross Boat Club for organising and implementing and excellent HOR with military precision. Well done to all.
For the Garda Squad, they have two more weeks of training with a 6K Test and a Tonnage Test before they get to take a break for Christmas. Then it is off to Seville for a Winter Training Camp in January.
Everyone is welcome to celebrate the clubs wins this season and remember the great crews of yester year at the Club Christmas Party on Friday 12th December. Doors will open at 8pm for the Christmas Dinner and then the party will continue well into the night. All oars people and friends are welcome.
