National Championships, 1975 ~ On Saturday 19th July 1975, the Irish Senior VIII Championship took place in placid conditions at Coosan Point, Athlone. Raced over 1,900 metres, the Garda VIII put in a convincing performance, winning the final for a second year in a row (5.37), three lengths clear of Trinity with Queen’s in third place. This was our fifth Senior VIII Championship title win. The Irish Press reported:

Barring an accident, the crack Garda crew had to win yesterdays Irish Senior Championship … Trinity had held Garda during the early stages, but by half way Garda had drawn away to a three quarter length lead. Approaching the finish Garda were still striking thirty-six but in the final 100 metres they increased to a staggering forty-four and suddenly forged away from Trinity.
