National Championships, 1979 ~ On 14th July 1979, the race for the most prestigious title in Irish Rowing, the Senior VIII Championship, took place in near perfect conditions on Lough Derg. The Garda crew which included the Prince Philip winning IV, came from behind to win our seventh Senior VIII Championship title by a distance of three-quarters of a length from Neptune with Trinity in third place. To finish off a great day, Gerry Conway won the senior single scull event from Lady Elizabeth (Bloomer).
